Physics
Physics is the science that people don't know they know. We start learning the laws of physics when we are babies; it's a well-known fact that those little people in high-chairs aren't just trying to feed the dogs or make work for their caregivers. They are learning all about gravity. They are actually experimenting. We perform experiments and apply the rules of physics daily. How else would we be able to toss that garbage into the basket (how do we know the correct trajectory)? How would we know how hard to push the door closed but not slam it (how do we decide how much force to use on the door to give it the right amount of momentum)? [Hint: it's all physics.]
I help students conceptualize laws, rules, theories, and equations by relating them to their everyday experiences. Recognizing that physics is more familiar to them then they realized often removes a mental barrier to learning. We can then focus on tricks to aid memory to get that work done.
