Services

I offer flexible, personalized, science tutoring services in Erin, Ontario, and surrounding areas. My specialties are in the natural sciences. My main target audience is secondary-level students and post-secondary prep, though I can also assist with college-level and first- and second-year university courses.

To better accommodate my students learning styles, availability, and preference, I offer both in-person and virtual tutoring. Whether you are looking for a short-term block of time to prepare for exams or get extra help with a tricky concept, or think you might need longer-term help navigating a course, please reach out to me and we'll find the best plan for you!

I travel up to 15 minutes(ish) from Erin for no extra charge. While I currently do not maintain office space, I meet my students at a mutually convenient library branch or at their home. If neither of those options are suitable, I am happy to do live-video virtual sessions. Though I do find it a little more challenging to provide virtual learning support, I have some techy tools to help maintain a more interactive session through the screen. (Thankfully, I do not have to contend with Erin's notoriously poor Internet speed, as we have the new fiber optic service so connectivity is never an issue from this end.)

So... why should you choose Tutor In Science from other options out there? My "program" is more of an "unprogram", as I offer completely customizable and personalized tutoring sessions based on what is best for my students. I support all learning styles and recognize the fluidity between them that can exist within each learner. I approach concepts and course content from different angles if needed to ensure my students' success each step of the way.

Subjects Offered

Biology

I help students identify and recognize examples of biological concepts in nature and themselves to create relevant, memorable connections that deepen comprehension of lessons and enable critical thinking.

Chemistry

I clarify for students the relationships between the arrangements of basic chemical building blocks, properties of the elements they create, and how interactions between them predict chemical reactions.

Physics

I relate the laws of physics to experiences that students encounter daily to illustrate that everyone already has an innate knowledge of the basic principles to build upon, and give them the confidence to trust their common sense.

Environmental Sci

I draw from the immense pool of current environmental concerns to help students separate the facts from fiction and environmental motivation from economic to promote a scientific and unbiased analysis.

Fees

Having had a "soft launch" in the 2024/2025 academic year, I am pleased to now enter the first year of my full program. However, a good teacher, especially in the sciences, never stops learning. There are always new exciting discoveries and changes in current knowledge. I do not know it all (no one does)! Therefore, I fully expect my program to continue to evolve over time, and welcome any input from students or parents! This can include homework for me, which is GREAT!

I will NEVER charge for extra prep time, extra research that is necessary to answer any and all questions my students have, or writing up and emailing said answers as required. However, if additional material is requested by the student for practice or review (ie. notes, practice problems, or quizzes), there will be an extra charge that is mutually agreed upon. This extra work is not often necessary in order to get full benefits of my services, but it is an available option that I am happy to offer.
